Getting your study-abroad papers ready in Bangladesh
In short: 5 offices in Bangladesh verify, attest or issue the papers a student visa asks for. For each: what it does, the official portal, the steps, the fee as its official page prints it and its offices, read on 16 October 2026.
Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) - e-Apostille
Gives a digital apostille with a QR code on Bangladeshi public documents (certificates, transcripts, birth certificate, police clearance and more) for use abroad. Bangladesh is a party to the Apostille Convention (in force 30 March 2025 per HCCH). MOFA says the process is fully online and completed within five days.
First get your document certified by the bodies in MOFA's "chain of legalization" list (for example SSC/HSC: Education Board, then Ministry of Education; Honours/Masters/PhD: University, then Ministry of Education; birth certificate: Notary, then Law Ministry).
Register on myGov (www.mygov.bd) as a citizen.
Apply for the e-Apostille and upload the documents.
Pay online and track your application on myGov.
Download the e-Apostille; anyone can verify it by its QR code on the MOFA directory site.
Appointment: No appointment; online through myGov.
Offices
Dhaka: Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Segunbagicha, Dhaka 1000 (contact address on the e-Apostille directory). Not confirmed on an official page; check before you go.
Education Board and Ministry of Education - certificate attestation
Step before MOFA for academic papers. SSC/HSC: Education Board, then Ministry of Education. Bachelor/Masters/PhD and MBBS: University, then Ministry of Education. Class 6-10: school and Upazila Secondary Education Officer, then Ministry of Education.
Get the original certificate and transcript from your Education Board or university (Dhaka Board has an online form for certificate and transcript withdrawal on its e-file site).
Get the Ministry of Education attestation (controlling authority) as listed in MOFA's chain of legalization.
Register on the online police clearance website (you can apply for yourself or for someone else).
Log in, click Apply, and fill in personal details and your present and permanent address. Police verification happens in the district or metro area of your present address.
Your passport must have at least 3 months validity. Use the permanent or emergency address written in your passport as your present address.
Upload a scan of your passport information page attested by a first-class gazetted officer.
Pay the fee by treasury challan or online card. Write your application reference number on the challan before uploading it.
Check status by SMS: send PCC S <reference number> to 26969.
To collect, bring a copy of your passport or of the application.
Appointment: No appointment; online application, then collect the certificate.
